9/6/15 The Memory Palace

The Memory Palace

My take of this podcast:

This is a nice podcast  they a small story about history of things, the podcast is most of the time is about 10-12 mins long.

http://thememorypalace.us/

Nate DiMeo is the creator (and the everything else) of this podcast.
He is the co-author of Pawnee: the Greatest Town in America and was a finalist for the 2012 Thurber Prize for American Humor.
He writes elsewhere now and then.
He spent a decade or so in public radio. You may have heard him on All Things Considered, or Morning Edition, or Marketplace.
He lives in Los Angeles via Providence, Rhode Island.
He loves getting emails from listeners. Write to Nate @ thememorypalace.us

After years of doing The Memory Palace as odd little passion/art project (which came after at least a couple of years of trying and failing to make it pay), I’m now making a go of doing these idiosyncratic, tiny history stories as my job. And it’s a weird job. And I’m delighted to find myself in the position to do it.
Here’s the thing: I’m in that position because of listeners like you. People who heard the Memory Palace and told people to listen.
So, if you’ve enjoyed the show over the years, if you’ve been here from the beginning, if you just heard it for the first time last week–do me a favor. Do the show a favor. Tell someone about the podcast. Send your best friend a link to the best episode. Tweet about it. Share it on Facebook. Take out a full-page ad in a Major Metropolitan newspaper. Skywriting is also a good move for summer.
But, if the Memory Palace has moved your or entertained you or ever made a day better, let someone know.
Thanks for listening.

The Memory Palace has joined Radiotopia

I started the Memory Palace in late 2008. Years ago. I spent the first few years trying to find a way to make it fit into public radio. I’d worked for Marketplace. I’d worked for NPR. I’d worked at local stations. I was good at those jobs. I hoped that I could turn The Memory Palace into one of those hour-long, weekend shows that could slide in between This American Life and hour fourteen of A Prairie Home Companion. That didn’t happen. I thought maybe it could air as a regular segment on an existing radio show. I thought maybe it could have it’s own little slot after a news cast once a week like some other tiny shows. Those didn’t happened. And after awhile, I gave up. On assuming I could make a living doing it. Not on the podcast. I loved the podcast. And, after I stopped trying to make it fit into a public-radio-shaped hole, it started to get better. It got more idiosyncratic. It got more me. And people seemed to like it.
In the meantime, it opened up other professional doors. So the podcast was both passion project and calling card. It was cool. It wasn’t my job. But it was cool. For a couple of years, it was a part of the Maximum Fun network and supported through donations and that helped keep things going, helped ensure that I could justify making time for it while I juggled other projects.
Then people started listening to podcasts. Then Serial came along and people figured out what that purple button was on their iPhones. Then there were all those “Like Serial? Try this…” articles and I was lucky enough to have the Memory Palace pop up now and then. There were suddenly a lot of people listening. It became clear, very quickly that the business was changing incredibly fast (like, it was suddenly an actual business) and, if I could find away to pull it off, I could stop juggling. I could do The Memory Palace as a full-time proposition and maybe, just maybe make a living doing it.
So I talked to everyone. Every remotely appropriate network. Every ad-sales specialist. I weighed every option. I explored staying independent. And I ended up at Radiotopia. I’m delighted that I have.
Radiotopia is a collective of many of the very best audio storytellers in the English-speaking world. That’s not promo-copy hyperbole. It is an All-Star team. I’m straight-up honored to be in their company.
And you should be too. Go to Radiotopia.fm. Listen. Your next favorite show is right there, waiting for you to find it.

ARTC'S Podcast 7/22/15

Atlanta Radio Theatre Company

I love this group, they enjoy performing on stage and cover tons of stories. Check them out:

http://www.artc.org/

ARTC’s Mission
To produce original dramatic audio and foster the expertise to do so.
ARTC’s Story
The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company was founded in 1984 by radio personality William L. Brown and actor/director Patrick Stansbury. They incorporated ARTC as a non-profit educational corporation, dedicated to the production and distribution of quality audio drama.
To procure funding, Mr. Stansbury persuaded the Citizens and Southern National Bank (as it was then known, later part of NationsBank, now Bank of America) to sponsor a weekly, one hour program on WGST-AM — and Mr. Brown turned his spare bedroom into a recording studio. Atlanta playwright Thomas E. Fuller (now better known as one of the authors of Wishbone books for young readers) was enlisted as principal writer, and numerous actors from the local theatrical community joined this exciting new venture.
Soon, program production became too complicated for a small bedroom studio. Henry Howard, owner of Audio Craft, made his facility available to ARTC and came on board as a producer.
This was simply the beginning of ARTC. They have continued to thrive in venues such as Dragon Con and have a standing program year-round. You can check out our detailed Chronology of past shows, listen to our podcast, or help support us with a donation or a purchase!

Crew

JuanJuan wears a lot of different hats for the Quantum Leap Podcast. He does research for each individual episode before they are recorded. That encompasses him trying to find all of the historical errors, wardrobe errors, interesting facts about the characters, etc. that he can about each episode. Juan started volunteering on the Quantum Leap Podcast only doing this, but has expanded his role to include; Line Producer, Editor, and Voice Talent. Born in 1987 Juan was still VERY young during the whole Quantum Leap series, but can still remember watching the show with his siblings. Some of Juan’s favorite TV shows, aside from absolutely loving Quantum Leap, include being HUGE WWE fan, Seinfeld, Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Sliders, Suits, and MANY many other shows!! Aside from television, Juan is also a big movie lover, reads a lot of comics, and has an affinity for saltwater fish tanks! Juan doesn’t really have anything to “plug” at the moment, but hopes to start his own podcast in the near future, while maintaining all of his volunteer work with Albie and the gang! Above all else, Juan cherishes his wife, and son, and credits them for keeping him sane every day!!
Juan has seen every episode, MANY MANY times, as well as owns all of the DVD’s. But he’s excited to go through all of them with a fine tooth comb, learning new things, and following along with those who are watching for the first time ever, or in a long time.

haydenHayden McQueenie is a huge fan of Quantum Leap, and as such, has been an active participant in discussions on the Quantum Leap Podcast with its hosts Albie and Heather since the podcast’s first episode. Due to his creative suggestions for the podcast, combined with his extensive knowledge of the show, Hayden was invited to join the Quantum Leap Podcast’s crew as a segment contributor. Since then, Hayden has risen through the ranks, and in addition to his segments, he now also runs the Quantum Leap Podcast’s Facebook page, has written episode recaps and skit scripts, organised numerous interviews with guest stars and crew members of Quantum Leap, and is credited as a Co-Producer of the Podcast.
In his professional life, Hayden is a self-proclaimed “mathemagician” (though Albie and Heather have dubbed him “the Wizard of Oz” as he lives in Melbourne Australia), having taught Secondary level mathematics, tutored Engineering mathematics and lectured in Calculus at University level, and tutored mathematics privately to students of all ages for over a decade. Hayden has presented numerous times at the annual conference of the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV), and has had a paper he has written be published in the MAV conference proceedings about a game he invented which helps to teach students about Linear Functions and other numerical, graphical and algebraic concepts. Hayden is currently undertaking his Masters degree in Education, and in the future hopes to teach future teachers, build curriculums and do further mathematical and educational research. Hayden is also credited as an Executive Producer of the Quantum Leap fanfilm “A Leap to Di For”, which premiered at “The Leap Back” Quantum Leap convention in 2009.
Hayden’s favourite hobby is going to the movies with his friends. He goes at least twice a week, and gets extremely annoyed when only one movie premieres in a week. Hayden also loves all types of music, can read sheet music fluently, and loves to sing – mostly in his car where he doesn’t get any noise complaints, and frequently participating in karaoke nights his local Irish pub. Other than that, he just loves playing with his dogs and spending time with his friends. Family and friends mean everything to Hayden, and he is sure that the friends he has made through being a part of this podcast will last a lifetime.

PhilPhillip Doherty (Phil to his friends) has lived all his life in Sydney, Australia. He discovered Quantum Leap as a teenager in the late 1990s, when it was airing five times a week in the small hours of the morning, and quickly became a big fan of the show. Phil and his mother would diligently record each night’s episode onto a VHS tape while they slept, and watch the episode together the next day. These days, Phil lives with his fiancĂ©, Brittany, and has introduced her to the show. The two of them are now watching Quantum Leap together and having a great time. Phil also has a four-year-old son named Lucas, and looks forward to one day hosting a family Quantum Leap rewatch so that Lucas, not to mention Phil and Brittany’s future children, can all enjoy the show as much as they do.
Besides Quantum Leap, Phil lists his favourite TV shows as Lost, Firefly, True Blood, The Office (both the UK and US versions), Orphan Black, Scrubs, and The Micallef P(r)ogram(me). He is a big music fan, a big comedy fan, and a big musical comedy fan. His favourite movie is Almost Famous, closely followed by the “Cornetto Trilogy” – Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End. His favourite comedians are Shaun Micallef, George Carlin, Bill Bailey and Dylan Moran. He is a big Stephen King fan, and is currently listening to the Dark Tower series on audiobook. Other activities he enjoys include eating out or going to the movies with Brittany, taking Lucas to the park, playing video games, being a couch potato, and bushwalking.
Phil has recently joined the Quantum Leap Podcast crew, in the role of recapper, writing the episode recaps that Heather reads in each episode of the podcast. His first recap was for the episode ‘Another Mother’, and full versions of his recaps can also be found on the Quantum Leap Wiki. This is Phil’s first foray into the podcast world, and while he has vague hopes of one day having his own podcast (drawing a lot of inspiration from the work of Albie and Heather), right now he’s happy being a part of the QLP team.

steveSteve is not only a HUGE Quantum Leap fan, but he is also a Doctor Who, Cosmos, Agents of SHIELD, Sherlock, and a fan of many many more TV shows and movies. His love Quantum Leap, and for pop culture in general, lead Steve to helping out the Quantum Leap Podcast. Steve serves as our server host. He protects that which is most important. Ensuring that we can bring you all of the entertainment that you so desire. Residing close to where our hosts are, Steve will be taking the journey along with us, for the duration of the Quantum Leap series.
